Your Daily Muslim: Habib Salim Alatas

"Ooh, can I touch it?"

“Ooh, can I touch it?”

Habib Salim Alatas is an Indonesian Islamist with a major case of gay face. Like most rabid homophobes, it’s extremely likely Alatas is deeply closeted. He is the organizer of the Islamic Defenders Front in Jakarta, a group with a history of anti-LGBT activism. Recently, his organization shut down a drag queen pageant by manipulating local law. He released the following statement regarding the event: “[The Islamic Defenders Front] will deny if there is such thing as a transgender contest in our country. It’s morally destructive and not educating.” Hey, Alatas, you know what else is morally destructive and lacking in educational value? The Qur’an.

Alatas has also come out (no pun intended) against pop star/LGBT icon Lady GaGa. According to Alatas, GaGa is the “devil’s messenger.” When GaGa announced she would be performing in Jakarta, he petitioned the police to cancel the concert. He mobilized his supporters to protest her arrival, and eventually the police conceded to the savage, rioting mob and the concert was called off. Upon that announcement, Alatas rejoiced, stating: “We’re very glad the police stopped this moral destroyer from coming to this country, where we believe in God. Of course we stand against her — she only wears panties and a bra.”

So, Alatas, you don’t like seeing scantily-clad women… what does that make you? GAY.
