Your Daily Muslim: Zaghloul el-Naggar

Egyptian Muslim Dr. Zaghloul el-Naggar is what happens when you try to educate a fanatical Muslim to be a doctor. He received a Ph.D in geology, but still believes in Islamic mumbo-jumbo about how the Earth was formed. He is a noted author of books about miracles in the Qur’an, and has spent his entire career trying to convince people that drinking camel piss is good for them.

The practice of drinking camel piss was popularized by none other than Muhammad himself, pigs be upon him. Sahih Bukhari 8:82:794 in the Hadith: “Narrated Anas: Some people from the tribe of ‘Ukl came to the Prophet and embraced Islam. The climate of Medina did not suit them, so the Prophet ordered them to go to the (herd of milch) camels of charity and to drink, their milk and urine (as a medicine).” Muslims believe that Muhammad was the perfect man and is an absolute moral exemplar, child marriage and all, and try to live like him. For some, this involves guzzling camel piss.

When confronted with the fact that urination is one of the body’s ways of excreting toxins, el-Naggar responded: “I am older than you and more learned than you: you are not going to teach me; I will teach generations of people like you.” Yes, you will teach them how to drink camel piss. That’s definitely something to be proud of… sadly, it’s probably the crowning achievement of el-Naggar’s joke of a career. Whether or not Muslims will use that as an excuse to get closer to camels is unknown.

Not one to avoid any form of pseudoscientific crap, el-Naggar claimed that NASA had proven that the moon had once split, a “miracle” mentioned by the delusional Muhammad. NASA dismissed the claim as baseless. I mean, anyone with eyes and half a brain can tell that the moon did not split. el-Naggar has also written expressing his belief in Jinns, invisible spirits that eat feces, and has said that some plant life is not able to be cultivated by man, but only by Allah.

el-Naggar has also cited Islamic scripture as a justification to avoid using modern medicine. Muhammad told his followers to avoid anything intoxicating, so that means no morphine, vicodin, codeine, Xanax, oxycontin, etc. for pain relief. “Wine is the cause of many physical, psychological and social diseases. Many studies proved that taking wine results in the intoxication of the body, mental disorder, amnesia and many other mental and physical diseases…” And other studies have shown that having a bit of wine every day actually improves cardiovascular health. He cites a report issued in 1979 when making his fallacious argument. How he has been able to keep his title of doctor is beyond belief.
