Indian Shia Islamic cleric Saif Abbasshole Naqvi is several centuries behind the times. Not only does he hold outdated, sexist views, he clearly does not understand the purpose of Facebook for females: to take dozens of pointless, nearly-identical pictures of yourself and spam your friends’ newsfeeds with them.
“Women are not allowed to show their faces to anyone apart from their mahram [male kin]. So posting pictures on Facebook is haram [forbidden].” That basically defeats the entire purpose of the internet for the entire female sex, aside from spending all their boyfriend’s money on shoes they “just have to have” on eBay. Perhaps Naqvi was tired of his wife spending too much time on the computer… or maybe he’s just a controlling douchebag. Sure, Muslim men can’t restrain themselves, hence the institution of the hijab and the absurd rules about limited contact with non-mahram men, but seeing a picture of a woman’s face online would not lead most men to rape. Seriously, with all the porn on the internet (around 25% of the internet is porn), an innocent picture of a woman smiling for the camera isn’t gonna evoke thoughts of sexual violence in most men.
Ladies, here’s Naqvi’s Facebook page. Have fun 😉
“an innocent picture of a woman smiling for the camera isn’t gonna evoke thoughts of sexual violence in most men.” No, just muslim men.
Too true, too true…..
