Boko Haram, the Nigerian Islamist militant group responsible for over 10,000 deaths in the past decade, is continuing its rampage. After its founder, Mohammed Yusuf, was killed during an attempted prison break in 2009, Islamic theologian Abubakar Muhammad Shekau took over. Under his reign, the group’s wrath has only gotten bloodier.

In June 2013, Shekau released a video in which he taunted and mocked the Nigerian government before footage was shown of Boko Haram members beheading a man accused of being a government informant. I don’t know why jihadists love making videos of themselves so much. It’s almost like how all the braindead famous people out there have to have cameras on them at all times – what have the Kardashians ever done for the good of humanity? …well, probably more than this Muslim has, at least. Beheading people is a rather common activity for Boko Haram members, who routinely attack schools, churches, and any other establishment that teaches that the Qur’an is fiction. In the beheading video, Shekau declined to engage in peace talks with the Nigerian government: “We have not entered into dialogue with anyone. Which kind of dialogue, for God’s sake, when day and night our brothers are being arrested, imprisoned, including women and children?” Apparently in Islam, it’s better to go around killing people than to live peacefully under the kuffar.

In other videos, Shekau spoke highly of sheikh Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda. He also stated, “I enjoy killing anyone that God commands me to kill – the way I enjoy killing chickens and rams.” OK, so lemme get this straight – he likes killing animals (a common indicator a person will later become a murderer) and kills anyone the voices in his head tell him to? Yep, Islam is totally the religion of peace if its followers think their deity is A-OK with mass homicide.

In August 2013, reports of Shekau’s death emerged. He was allegedly shot in a skirmish with Nigerian government forces, though no proof of his death was found. This seems to be a recurring pattern with him; he’ll get shot and people think he will die from his wounds, but like the parasite he is, he keeps coming back to make us all suffer.

In September 2013, Boko Haram militants targeted a university in sharia-controlled Yobe State. Students where shot in their sleep and numerous buildings were burned. Up to 50 students are believed to have perished in the violence.

He resurfaced in December 2013. Boko Haram launched a massive assault against numerous military bases, and a video of Shekau taking credit for the attacks appeared shortly thereafter. In the video, Shekau said: “By Allah, we will never stop.” Unafraid of Muslim retaliation, the Nigerian government struck back with massive air and ground raids on suspected Boko Haram strongholds, resulting in scores of Boko Haram casualties. Boko Haram continued the bloody pissing match by targeting a military barracks, shooting soldiers and their family members with rifles and rocket-propelled grenades. Now, the ball is in the Nigerian government’s court. It’s time for a decisive operation to eliminate Boko Haram once and for all.
