Welcome to Jihad in Syria week on YDM! This week, I’m going to examine five Muslims who traveled to Syria to shed the blood of the infidel and possibly earn themselves 72 virgins.

Abdul Salam Mahmoud totally dressed like a relief worker, not a jihadist… and you have to wonder about a grown man who spends much of his free time around little boys.

Last time Sudanese-born Australian Muslim Abdul Salam Mahmoud was featured on here, he was a member of a street dawah (Islamic evangelism) team in Sydney. Now, he’s halfway around the world in Syria, as part of an Islamic relief effort to help those affected by the civil war… at least, that’s his story. In reality, though he does help those affected by the violence, he’s mainly there to spread militant Islam and wage jihad against the Assad regime.

Since the initial YDM piece on Mahmoud was published, he has become an al Qaeda devotee, looking up to jihadist clerics like sheikhs Abdullah Azzam, Anwar al-Awlaki, and Ayman al-Zawahiri. He routinely shares quotes from those clerics (and others in the same ideological vein,) which are well-received by his plethora of Faebook friends & followers. Here are some samples:

Note the “sarcasm intended” at the bottom. Mahmoud is a fan of all those jihadist clerics, including sheikh Osama bin Laden.

In a video he posted on Facebook in which he shows some of the damage caused by a missile strike, Mahmoud calls the Russians and the Chinese enemies of Allah, along with (as usual) the Alawites and the Shiites. That’s two more nations added to the list of countries that allegedly hate Allah, according to Mahmoud – a list comprised of most Gulf countries and the entirety of NATO.

Mahmoud’s hatred toward the Chinese and Russians didn’t end there. In another Facebook status, he criticized Russian soldiers (whom he admitted his fellow mujahideen [jihadists] had killed) who were supporting Syrian president Bashar al-Assad. He also made a somewhat racist comment about the Chinese population:

In addition to all the other nations Mahmoud has it out for, Israel is one of his prime targets. He claims the end goal of the jihad in Syria is to retake the al-Aqsa mosque in the old city of Jerusalem. Of course, this likely entails destroying Israel, a dream shared by billions of totally tolerant Muslims throughout history.

Mahmoud’s jihadist posts on Facebook have attracted hundreds of like-minded Muslims, who praise his incendiary rhetoric and often share it on their own profiles. This next image shows how Mahmoud is willing to kill a non-Muslim (kafir), but refuses to kill a fellow believer. This is in line with Qur. 48:29, which says “Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. And those with him are hard against the disbelievers and merciful among themselves…”

In another video message, Mahmoud condemned “westernized” media and cultural influences. He discussed the future of media in an Islamic state: “When you have an Islamic state, you will not be able to open the TV and watch belly dancers and fornication and women barely wearing nothing, and things that a man should be shy to watch next to his daughter, and the daughter should be shy to watch next to her father. Our media will be purified and cleaned from these devilish programs that have been brought to us by the west… then in the streets, you will not be able to see women and girls wearing short shirts and things that, uhhhhhhhh, you just can’t believe that you see in the Muslim country. And boys and girls will not be free-mixing out in the open. And alcohol will not be sold in the stores out in the open. And nightclubs and all the things will be shut down because we are Muslims and this is haram and we cannot have these in our country.”

Folks, as you can see, Islam is totally compatible with our western culture and way of life. No clubs, no drinking, no free-mixing, no Game of Thrones – 100% in line with our secular society! As for Mahmoud wanting girls to cover up, I can’t see why any straight guy would want that. It just doesn’t make any sense.

As for Mahmoud’s jihad against nightclubs, he and his fellow mujahideen are making it a reality. Here’s what he had to say about a recent assault by mujahideen targeting nightclubs in Syria:

Destroying nightclubs… so much for “liberating.”

While Mahmoud claims to be in Syria for relief work purposes, if his true intent hasn’t already become crystal clear, these next few screenshots from his Facebook page should drive the point home. Once again the religion of peace’s true nature, love of “martyrdom” and all, shines through.

And what of the future of Syria? What does the presence of Mahmoud and others like him mean for the war-torn nation? Well, it isn’t looking good. Syrian children apparently idolize the jihadis in their midst. In them, the mujahideen see future militants, resulting in an entire generation at extreme risk of indoctrination. Here’s the very bleak picture Mahmoud painted of the next generation of Syrians:

Now that’s among the worst parenting advice I’ve ever heard.

Mahmoud has not been active on Facebook in recent days. Whether or not he is still alive is unknown. Everyone (but especially if you live in Australia) – please share this piece. The more people who know about Mahmoud and what’s he’s up to, the better. Preventing him from re-entering Australia would be the best outcome.
